NARAL PRO-CHOICE COLORADO: WITH KENNEDY RETIRING, COLORADO’S SENATORS MUST BLOCK ANY ANTI-ROE SUPREME COURT NOMINEE, WE MUST ELECT A PRO-CHOICE GOVERNOR

Denver – NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado Executive Director Karen Middleton tonight issued the following statement in response to Justice Kennedy’s retirement:

“This is a crisis and the threat to safe, legal abortion in Colorado and around the country is very real. This is why Colorado must elect a pro-choice Governor, and why our Senators must take action now to stop any anti-choice Supreme Court nominee.

President Trump has said he will only nominate Justices who will overturn Roe. That is not only unacceptable, it is an insult to Coloradans and our pro-choice values. Whether Democrat, Republican, or Unaffiliated, Colorado voters overwhelmingly support the right to choose and have said so repeatedly at the ballot box.

US Senators Gardner and Bennet must not just oppose, but actively work to block any Supreme Court nominee who will overturn Roe v. Wade and the Constitutional right to choose abortion.  This threat further underscores the need to protect Colorado laws with a pro-choice Governor and a pro-choice House and Senate, making our November elections even more critical.

The rights and lives of Colorado women depend on it.

Colorado is a pro-choice state. We were the first state to allow safe, legal abortion in 1967, six years before Roe. And 51 years later, those rights must be protected. ”
