Coalition Urges Lawmakers to Stop Pushing Limits on Abortion Care That Put Services Out of Reach, Hurts Access for Low-Income Women and Women of Color
(Denver, CO) – The Colorado Reproductive Health, Rights and Justice Coalition will be holding a press conference on Thursday, February 22 to oppose two anti-women’s health bills, HB 1082 (the Women’s Rights Obliterated Now, or WRONG bill) and HB 1225 (Personhood). The press conference will take place before the bills are heard in the House Health, Insurance and Environment Committee at 1:30.
HB18-1082 is one of a slew of policies states have have seen over the years that seek to push medically unnecessary limitations on abortion care, not because it will promote health or safety, but with the intention of making care harder to access and provide. Members of the Coalition are extremely concerned because when any health service is made more expensive or access is limited it falls hardest on low-income women and women of color. There is no factual basis or medical need for House Bill 1082.
HB 1225 is yet another attempt to put ‘personhood’ into Colorado law, something Colorado voters have repeatedly rejected at the ballot box.
